  1. Soak the basmati rice in enough water for 15 minutes and drain the water.
  2. Blend the coconut pieces in a mixer into smooth paste, adding water and keep aside for 15 minutes.
  3. Strain and preserve the coconut milk.
  4. Heat the oil in a pressure cooker and add the cumin seeds.
  5. When the seeds crackle, add the cinnamon and cloves powder, green chillies, potatoes and ginger-garlic paste and saute till the potato turns golden brown in colour.
  6. Add the drained rice and saute for 5 minutes.
  7. Add the coconut milk and mix well and saute for 2 minutes.
  8. Add enough water and pressure cook for 3 whistles.
  9. Serve hot with tomato rai-methi chutney.
