For Bread Poha
6 slices of white bread , cut into cubes
1 1/2 tbsp oil
1 tsp mustard seeds ( rai / sarson)
4 curry leaves (kadi patta)
1/2 cup chopped onions
1 1/2 tsp finely chopped green chillies
1/4 cup chopped capsicum
1/2 tsp turmeric powder (haldi)
3/4 cup chopped tomatoes
a pinch of garam masala
salt to taste
1 tsp lemon juice

For The Garnish
1 tbsp chopped coriander (dhania)

Method

  1. To make bread poha, heat the oil in a broad non-stick pan and add the mustard seeds.
  2. When the seeds crackle, add the curry leaves and sauté on a medium flame for a few seconds.
  3. Add the onions and green chillies and sauté on a medium flame for 2 minutes.
  4. Add the capsicum and sauté on a medium flame for 2 minutes.
  5. Add the turmeric powder and tomatoes and sauté on a medium flame for 2 minutes.
  6. Add the bread pieces, salt and garam masala, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 2 minutes, while stirring occasionally.
  7. Switch off the flame, add the lemon juice and mix well.
  8. Serve the bread poha hot garnished with coriander.

Method for making bread poha

  1. To make bread poha recipe | veg bread poha | easy bread poha with tomatoes, onions | heat a little oil in a broad non-stick pan. Once the oil is hot add the mustard seeds. The hot oil releases great flavor from the mustard seeds.
  2. As soon as the seeds crackle, add the curry leaves (kadi patta). Any sort of tadka has curry leaves added to it for a unique savory, almost citrus like taste.
  3. Sauté them on a medium flame for a few seconds. Be very attentive at this time as the curry leaves and mustard seeds might burn very fast.
  4. Once the tadka starts emitting a fragrance, add the onions.
  5. Also add green chillies and sauté on a medium flame for 2 minutes. Since I want that spicy kick I have used 1.5 tsp of finely chopped chillies but you can reduce it if you wish.
  6. After 2 minutes the onions should have become translucent.
  7. Now add the capsicum and sauté on a medium flame for 2 minutes. I have not finely chopped the capsicum as I still want it to have a bite even after cooked.
  8. Add the chopped tomatoes to the pan.
  9. Also add a little turmeric powder.
  10. Sauté on a medium flame for 2 minutes till the tomatoes are cooked.
  11. Now I will add the bread cubes. To make the bread cubes cut each bread slice in half lengthwise and cut each slice in 3 equal parts. Repeat this for 5 other bread slices.
  12. Also add the garam masala and salt. This blend of spices gives a very Indian touch to this recipe.
  13. Carefully mix bread poha | veg bread poha | easy bread poha with tomatoes, onions |  well, without breaking the bread pieces and cook on a medium flame for 2 minutes, while stirring occasionally.
  14. Switch off the flame, add the lemon juice and mix the Bread Poha well. We add lemon juice at the end so it doesn’t get bitter due to the heat.
  15. Garnish Bread Poha with coriander.
  16. Serve bread poha | veg bread poha | easy bread poha with tomatoes, onions | hot as breakfast or in the evening with piping hot Elaichi tea.

I tried this recipe today with following additions. 2 tsp soaked chana dal I added along with mustard seeds. Also, I don''t have capsicum so I used potatoes in their place. It came out very well. Thanks for your recipe ??
