For The Jowar and Moong Dal Khichdi Recipe
1/2 cup jowar (white millet)
1/2 cup yellow moong dal (split yellow gram) , washed and drained
salt to taste
2 tsp ghee
1 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
a pinch of asafoetida (hing)
1/4 tsp turmeric powder (haldi)

  1. Clean, wash and soak the jowar in enough water in a deep bowl overnight or at least for 10 hours.
  2. Next day, drain it and discard the water.
  3. Combine the jowar, moong dal, salt and 2 ½ cups of water in a pressure cooker, mix well and pressure cook for 7 whistles.
  4. Allow the steam to escape before opening the lid. Keep aside.
  5. For the tempering, heat the ghee in a small non-stick pan and add the cumin seeds.
  6. When the seeds crackle, add the asafoetida, turmeric powder and sauté for a few seconds.
  7. Add the tempering to the khichdi, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 2 to 3 minutes, while stirring occasionally.
  8. Serve immediately.

Super healthy and tasty!! Just loved it... the texture, the taste and the mouth feel too. Worth a try when you have gobbled junk food the previous day and today looking for an absolute nourishing one dish meal.
