Panyaram is a tasty south indian dish made by steaming the batter of plain flour, idli batter and baking soda and garnished with with mustard seeds,chick peas, coconut pieces, curry leaves and ginger.

Panyaram recipe - How to make Panyaram

Preparation Time:    Cooking Time:    Total Time:     Makes 3 servings


2 cups idli batter
1 tbsp plain flour (maida)
2 pinches baking soda
1 tsp chana dal (split bengal gram)
1/2 tsp mustard seeds ( rai / sarson)
1/2 tsp finely chopped green chillies
1 tsp chopped fresh coconut
1 spring of curry leaves (kadi patta)
1/2 tsp finely chopped ginger (adrak)
salt to taste
oil for cooking

  1. Combine the plain flour and idli batter and mix well.
  2. Add the baking soda and mix well.
  3. Add the remaining ingredients and mix well.
  4. Heat a appam pan and grease with 1/2 tsp oil.
  5. Pour spoonful of batter and cook till golden brown from both the sides.
  6. Serve hot.
