Raisin cake is an eggless swet cake recipe which makes for a great tea time cake recipe. The flour mix is folded into the raisin mixture and then baked till fluffy soft.

1/2 pound raisins (kismis)
1 cup packed light brown sugar
1 cup water
2 tbsp lard or vegetable shortening
1 tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon (dalchini) powder
1/4 tsp cloves (laung / lavang) powder
1 1/2 cups plain flour (maida)
1 tsp baking soda


  1. Combine raisins, brown sugar, water, lard or shortening, salt, cinnamon, and cloves
  2. In a 2-quart saucepan. bring to a boil over medium heat; cook 5 minutes,
  3. Stirring
  4. Occasionally. cool to room temperature.
  5. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. grease a 10-inch tube pan. stir together flour
  6. And baking soda.
  7. Fold dry ingredients into cooled raisin mixture.
  8. Spoon into greased pan and bake 45 to 50 minutes or until a toothpick
  9. Inserted in center comes out clean.
