A delicious vegetable dal recipe with a blend of tuar and moong dal along with vegetables. The dals are tempered with mustard and cumin seeds and flavored with tomatoes, sugar and jeera powder. Simply delicious!

1 cup chana dal (split Bengal gram)
1 cup vegetables - carrots, french beans and cabbage(diced and parboiled)
1 tbsp oil
a few curry leaves (kadi patta)
1 tsp urad dal (split black lentils)
1/2 tsp mustard seeds ( rai / sarson)
1/2 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
1" ginger (adrak)
1/4 tsp turmeric powder (haldi)
1/2 tsp chilli powder
3 green chillies
1 onion
salt to taste
coriander (dhania) and fresh grated coconut for garnishing


  1. Soak the gram dal in water for 3 hours and then grind coarsely with ginger,turmeric,salt,chilli powder.
  2. Chop finely the onion and chillies.
  3. Heat oil and add cumin seeds and mustard seeds. when mustard seeds start popping, add curry leaves,onions,chillies and saute for 2 minutes.add the vegetables and salt. fry for 2 minutes and then add the coarsely ground dal and mix well.add a little water and cover . keep on low flame for 2minutes.garnish with coriander and fresh grated coconut.s
