The vegetable rawa upma is a delectable upma recipe with rawa or semolina as ingredient. The rawa or suji are roasted and cooked with onion, mustard seeds, curry leaves, lime juice and chopped coriander leaves. An excellent breakfast item, vegetable rawa upma is easy, delicious and even healthy.

1 cup semolina (rava) (fried in a pan with 2tsp I671 , till light brown or till it gives the roasted smell)
2 onions , chopped
8 green chillies
1 small tomato , chopped
1 small bunch coriander (dhania)
1 small bunch curry leaves (kadi patta)
2 carrot , chopped
100 gms chopped french beans
handfull of fresh green peas
2 cloves (laung / lavang) or 1 stick
1/2 tsp garam masala
1 tsp lemon juice
1 tsp cashewnuts (kaju)
salt to taste

For Seasoning
10 tsp oil
4 to 5 tsp butter
a little mustard seeds ( rai / sarson)
a little urad dal (split black lentils)

  1. Heat the oil and butter in a pan.
  2. Add cashews first and fry till light brown. Then add the mustard seed and urad dal, let it splutter add curry leaves, chilies and onions. Fry well till the onions leave oil.
  3. Add precooked vegetables and fry again for 2 mts, then add tomatoes, powdered cloves and cinnamon with garam masala. Boil water in a separate pan.
  4. Add the boiling water to this fried ingredients add salt, mix well for 1 min.
  5. Add rava slowly and stir well, with out forming lumps.
  6. Once its done add coriander leaves and lime juice.
  7. Serve with mango pickle or coconut chutney.
