We have brought you a very famous Mumbai Street Food, quick evening snack and Indian breakfast which is famous and widely eaten all over India that is bread pakora. Pokara are fritters which are derived from India. Usually, pakora's can be made with potatoes, brinjal, onions, paneer and many more.

Bread pakora is a versatile recipe and is loved by all the generations also it is super quick and easy to make. Bread pakora can be made with and without stuffing. We have made bread pakora stuffed with potato filling. It is definitely a treat to your taste buds.

For those who thought Vada Pav and Pav Bhaji to be the only bread-based roadside snacks, Bread Pakora is sure to be an eye-opener.

We have divided the procedure of bread pakora into 2 steps, first to make the aloo stuffing, heat the oil in a deep non-stick pan and add the mustard seeds. When the seeds crackle, add the curry leaves and sauté on a medium flame for a few seconds. Add the potatoes, green peas, turmeric powder, ginger-green chilli paste, coriander and salt, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 2 minutes. Mixture for stuffing is ready!! Further, to proceed making the bread pakora. Place a slice of bread on a clean, dry and flat surface and spread a portion of the aloo masala evenly over it. Place another slice of bread over it, press lightly and cut it diagonally into 2 equal pieces. Heat the oil in a deep non-stick kadhai, dip one piece at a time in the batter and deep-fry on a medium flame till it turns crisp and golden brown in colour from both the sides. Drain on an absorbent paper. Serve Punjabi bread pakora with aloo stuffing immediately with meetha chutney, teekha chutney or sukha lehsun ka chutney.

Ingredients


For Bread Pakora
4 slices bread
oil for deep-frying

For The Bread Pakora Aloo Masala
1 cup boiled , peeled and mashed potatoes
2 tsp oil
1/2 tsp mustard seeds ( rai / sarson)
5 to 6 curry leaves (kadi patta)
1/4 cup boiled and coarsely mashed green peas
1/4 tsp turmeric powder (haldi)
1 tsp ginger-green chilli paste
1 tbsp finely chopped coriander (dhania)
salt to taste

To Be Mixed Into A Smooth Batter (using 1/2 Cup Water)
1 cup besan (bengal gram flour)
1/4 tsp turmeric powder (haldi)
1/2 tsp chilli powder
a pinch of asafoetida (hing)
salt to taste

For Serving With Bread Pakora
meetha chutney
teekha chutney
sukha lehsun ka chutney

  1. Heat the oil in a deep non-stick pan and add the mustard seeds.
  2. When the seeds crackle, add the curry leaves and sauté on a medium flame for a few seconds.
  3. Add the potatoes, green peas, turmeric powder, ginger-green chilli paste, coriander and salt, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 2 minutes.
  4. Divide into 2 equal portions and keep aside.

  1. Place a slice of bread on a clean, dry and flat surface and spread a portion of the aloo masala evenly over it.
  2. Place another slice of bread over it, press lightly and cut it diagonally into 2 equal pieces.
  3. Heat the oil in a deep non-stick kadhai, dip one piece at a time in the batter and deep-fry on a medium flame till it turns crisp and golden brown in colour from both the sides. Drain on an absorbent paper.
  4. Repeat steps 1 to 3 to make 2 more {span class="bold1"}bread pakoras{/span}.
  5. Serve the {span class="bold1"}bread pakora{/span} immediately with meetha chutney, teekha chutney or sukha lehsun ka chutney.

  1. For the aloo stuffing in this recipe, you may avoid using green peas if required. Further, you may also use leftover batata vada mixture as a filling for this recipe.

For the Aloo Masala:

  1. Heat the oil in a deep non-stick pan. Add the mustard seeds and let them crackle.
  2. Add the curry leaves and let them infuse their flavor into the oil.

  11. Divide the aloo masala into 2 equal portions. Keep aside.

For the batter:

  1. In a deep bowl add the besan (bengal gram flour). This is the key ingredient of the batter and is responsible for holding all the ingredients together.
  2. Add the turmeric powder (haldi) for the color.
  3. Now add the chilli powder.
  4. Finally add a pinch of asafoetida (hing) .You can skip adding Hing if you don't like it.
  5. Add the salt to taste.
  6. Add about 1/2 a cup of water. You may require 1-2 tbsp more depending upon the quality of the Besan.
  7. Mix well using a whisk and keep aside. Make sure that there are no lumps.

  1. To make bread pakora recipe | Mumbai style bread pakora | Punjabi bread pakora with aloo stuffing | stuffed bread pakora | keep 2 slices of bread on a clean, moiture-free and flat surface. You can use either small or big bread slices as per your liking.
  2. Spread one portion of the aloo masala evenly over one of the slices with the help of a spoon.
  3. Press it gently with your hands.
  4. Place another bread slice over it.
  5. Press gently to ensure all ingredients are held together.
  6. Cut it diagonally into 2 equal pieces using a sharp knife.
  7. Dip one piece at a time in the batter.Stir the batter once before you dip the bread slices to ensure the batter is of the right consistency. Meanwhile,let the oil (for deep frying) get heated up in a deep non-stick kadhai.
  8. Deep-fry on a medium flame till it turns crisp and golden brown in colour from both the sides. It is advised to fry one piece at a time but, if you have a bigger kadhai you can fry 2 pieces together.
  9. Drain on an absorbent paper.
  10. Repeat steps 1 to 9 with the remaining ingredients to make 2 more Bread Pakoras.

I tried this recipe. It was delicious as an evening snack. If onions and purina is added it will be more slurpy.
