1/2 cup yellow moong dal (split yellow gram) , soaked for 30 minutes and drained
1 cup grated carrot
1/4 cup finely chopped spring onions whites and greens
1/4 cup finely chopped raw mango
2 tbsp finely chopped mint leaves (phudina)
2 tbsp finely chopped coriander (dhania)
1 tsp chaat masala
1 tsp dried mango powder (amchur)
salt to taste
2 tsp oil
1 tsp mustard seeds ( rai / sarson)
1/4 tsp asafoetida (hing)

  1. Combine the soaked moong dal and enough water in a deep pan, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 6 to 8 minutes, while stirring occasionally. Drain and keep aside.
  2. Transfer the cooked yellow moong dal, carrot, spring onion whites and greens, mango, mint leaves, coriander, chaat masala, dried mango powder and salt and mix well. Keep aside.
  3. Heat a small non-stick pan ,add the mustard seeds and asafoetida and sauté on a medium flame for a few seconds.
  4. Pour this tempering over the yellow moong dal mixture and toss well.
  5. Refrigerate for 1 hour and serve chilled.

gajar aur moong dal ki chaat.. this salad is very different.. nice and chatpata... i made this salad for dinner with a hot cup of soup.. every bite has the taste of raw mango.. mint leaves.. and the back taste of the tempering..

Lovely Moong dal and carrots chaat tossed with amchut and mint to give a sweet and sour taste. My daughter had a whole bowl of this.
