How to make Homemade Pizza Sauce
-
For the Homemade Pizza Sauce (Indian style pizza sauce), clean, wash and remove the eyes of the tomatoes. You do not want them in your pizza sauce.
-
Make a criss-cross on the base of each tomato using a sharp knife. Make sure you use tomatoes that are firm and red in colour.
-
Meanwhile, keep the water for boiling in a deep pan.
-
Place the tomatoes in boiling water for 2 to 3 minutes or till the skin begins to peel.
-
Drain the tomatoes using a strainer.
-
Cool slightly and peel, they will peel easily because of the criss cross that was made at the base of the tomatoes as the skin will come off the flesh.
-
Cut them into 2 and deseed them using a sharp knife. Removing the seeds not only ensures a smooth puree, but also ensures that the sourness of the tomatoes reduces.
-
Roughly chop them. Size doesn't matter as they are anyway going to be blended.
-
Transfer the chopped tomatoes to a blender.
-
Blend in a mixer till smooth. Use a big mixer jar and not the small one as when you will blend it will overflow. Keep aside.
- In a broad non-stick pan, heat the olive oil. Olive oil is used in all Italian recipes as it taste really great. Add the garlic. You can also use the paste if you have it ready but finely chopped always gives a better taste and good mouthfeel. If you are jain, you can learn how to make Jain Pizza Sauce.

Tips for homemade pizza sauce
-
Remember that the criss-cross cut has to be made on the opposite side of the eyes of the tomatoes.
-
Also make the cut less than half way through the tomatoes. If the cut is too deep, the tomato might open up while blanching.
-
The pan in which water is kept for boiling has to be big and deep enough, so the tomatoes can immerse in the water completely.
-
Before you add the tomatoes to the water, ensure that the water is completely reached its boiling point. This is because we have to blanch the tomatoes and not cook them.
-
Use a small spoon to remove the seeds so there is minimum wastage.
-
Use a big mixer jar and not the small one as when you will blend it will overflow.
-
Oregano can be replaced with dried mixed herbs.
-
You can use this pizza sauce immediately or in an air- tight container and use as required. Stays fresh in the fridge for 4 days and freezer for atleast 3 months.

Can I blend the tomatoes with the seeds.
Hi Tarla ji I have been trying your recipes for years and loving them. Just wanted to know if I don''t blanch and deseed the tomatoes and just purees them will it not come out nice. Thank you
Thank you for this recipe! It was excellent! The flavour was robust and the sauce was well seasoned. It was easy to prepare. I used Italian seasoning because that was what I had on hand, and I simmered mine for about ten minutes to thicken it up. I will never use that canned stuff again!
How long wil the pureed sauce last in fridge n wat can be used as a preservative? Thank u in advance
