Here is something you can prepare on any day, to enjoy the satiating wholesomeness of home-cooked meals! This Masoor Dal is prepared using common spice powders and pastes, not to forget tasty onions and tomatoes, which give it a lip-smacking flavour and aroma.

Method
    Method
  1. Combine the masoor dal, little salt and 2 cups of water in a pressure cooker and pressure cook for 2 whistles.
  2. Allow the steam to escape before opening the lid. Keep aside.
  3. Heat the ghee in a deep non-stick pan and add the cumin seeds and asafoetida and sauté on a medium flame for 30 seconds.
  4. Add the onions, curry leaves and garlic paste and sauté on a medium flame for 1 minute.
  5. Add the tomatoes, chilli powder, coriander powder, ginger-green chilli paste, turmeric powder and salt, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 2 minutes ,while stirring occasionally.
  6. Add the cooked masoor dal, 1 cup of water and coriander, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 4 minutes, while stirring occasionally.
  7. Serve hot.

This is very good and so easy to make. Just note that the water quantity is in the method not in the list of ingredients, so you may need to adjust the number of cups of water if you change the serving size.

Very different taste as compared to the other dals !! Tasted nice and was refreshing in taste as compared to the common taste of other dals

The mayor dal recipe is tops.👍🏻. My 4 year old son is very fussy & doesn’t eat too well. I made this dal & mixed it with yoghurt & rice & he ate it. Thank you for the recipe.

Masoor Dal.. this is really different in taste.. and i got a different recipe for my daily dal.. I make this very often.. giving a break to my regular dal.. Thank you for this recipe.. Thoroughly enjoyed.
