Lebanese Desserts

Lebanese desserts are quite rich, with lots of dates and dry fruits, which are abundantly available in that region. Make your meal more special, with desserts like Baklava, Chocolate and Date Mousse, and Nutty Caramel Cigars.

Baklava is not only famous in middle eastern countries but, around the world. Each region has its own recipe for Baklava. There are many combinations and variations for this sinfully calorie laden dessert. Authentically it is made by stuffing filo pastries with nuts and syrup but, we are using samosa pattis as they are readily available.

The Nutty Caramel Cigars are crispy on the outside and rich in the inside, finally drizzled with caramel sauce. You can even serve them in shot glasses for better presentation.

Dry Fruit Stuffed Dates is another rich delight. It is generally eaten during Ramadan fasting. You can eat them plain or stuff them with goat cheese or just an almond. Coating them with chocolate makes it a treat for the kids!

Happy Cooking!

An elegant dessert ready in minutes! The chocolate and date mousse is a brilliant combination of streams of dark chocolate and dates streaked with whipped cream and dotted with chopped dates and walnuts. You will love the sweet creamy feel of this mousse, well balanced by the crunchy walnuts in every mouthful.
A main course that is as elegant as a dessert, the Date and Rice Pilaf features a unique combination of rice with dry fruits and nuts, enhanced with rose water, and garnished with fried onions and coriander. The cardamom flavour goes well with the mellow sweetness of this rice preparation, which combines wonderfully with spicy accompaniments.

This is a quick version of the traditional Lebanese sweet, which is made with layers of phylo pastry and dry fruits. Traditionally this is a baked dessert but I have made a deep-fried version that is just as delicious.
