Ukadiche Modak recipe - How to make Ukadiche Modak

Makes 4 to 5 servings
For The Filling
2 cups freshly grated coconut
1 cup sugar or grated jaggery (gur)
1 tsp roasted poppy seeds (khus-khus)
3 to 4 cardamoms , powdered
1 tsp rice flour (chawal ka atta)
For The Covering
1 cup rice flour (chawal ka atta)
1 cup water
1 tsp ghee
1/2 tsp oil
a pinch of salt

- Heat a non-stick pan, add the coconut and sugar, mix well and cook on a medium flame, till the sugar dissolves completely.
- Add the cardamom powder, poppy seeds and rice flour to it and cook for some more time.
- Keep aside and allow it to cool.

- In a deep pan, add 1 cup of water and bring it boil.
- Add the ghee, salt, oil and rice flour, mix well and cook for few minutes. Cover in between and cook while stirring in between.
- Remove from the flame and keep aside.
- Transfer the mixture on a flat dry plate and knead well to prepare a soft dough.

- Divide the dough into small equal balls.
- Roll out each ball into a small circle then while holding it in a hand make a small cup.
- Put some coconut filling into this cup shaped dough.
- Dip fingers your in the oil and bring the sides together to form a peak.
- Prepare remaining modak's in similar manner.
- Spread a damp cotton cloth onto a flat round bowl and arrange all the modak's onto it.
- Place the sifter in a steamer with lid and steam for about 15 to 20 minutes.
- Serve warm.
