Cooking Time: Total Time:
for grinding
1/4 cup toovar (arhar) dal
1/4 cup chana dal (split Bengal gram)
1 tbsp black pepper (kalimirch) powder
3 to 4 whole dry kashmiri red chillies
a pinch asafoetida (hing)
curry leaves (kadi patta) (optional)
for seasoning
mustard seeds ( rai / sarson)
urad dal (split black lentils)
cumin seeds (jeera)
curry leaves (kadi patta)
1 to 2 whole dry kashmiri red chillies
a lemon sized ball tamarind (imli)
turmeric powder (haldi) and salt
Method
- Fry all the ingredients for grinding in a pan dry.grind it.
- Soak the tamarind for 10-15 minutes
- Prepare concentrated tamarind juice.
- Heat the pan.pour one spoon of oil
- Prepeare thadka with all the ingredients mentioned.
- Add the tamarind juice to that.
- Add haldi and salt. bring it to boil.
- Then add the ground mixture.
- Boil till the contents become thick gravy and raw smell of tamarind vanishes.
- Serve hot with rice and parupu thogaiyal or poricha kootu and pappad.
