Mong Dal Kichi recipe - How to make Mong Dal Kichi

Makes 4 servings
1/2 cup moong dal (split green gram)
1/2 cup rice (chawal)
1/4 cup finely chopped onions
1/4 cup finely chopped tomatoes
2 green chillies
1 tsp mustard seeds ( rai / sarson)
1 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
salt to taste
1/4 tsp turmeric powder (haldi)
chilli powder to taste
ghee for cooking
chopped coriander (dhania) for garnishing
Method
- Method
- Soak the daal and rice togther for 5 minutes.
- Drain and keep aside.
- Heat the ghee in pressure cooker and add the mustard seeds and cumin seeds.
- When the seeds crackle, add the green chilles and onions and saute till the onions turn golden brown in colour.
- Add the tomatoes and the spices, mix well and saute for 3 minutes.
- Add little water, the dal and rice and pressure cook for 2-3 whistles.
- Serve hot.
