Urad dal vadas soaked in sugar syrup. It is a traditional bengali sweet made at home. Not usually found in sweet shops.

Roshbora recipe - How to make Roshbora

Preparation Time:    Cooking Time:    Total Time:    Makes 2 to 3 servings

Ingredients

1/2 cup urad dal (split black lentils)
1/2 tsp fennel seeds (saunf)
2 cups sugar
2 cups water
a pinch of saffron (kesar) strands soaked in 1 tbsp water
oil for deep frying

Method
    Method
  1. Soak the urad dal overnight and then grind to a smooth paste. Try to add as little water as possible.
  2. Add the fennel seeds and mix well.
  3. Make the sugar syrup by boiling the sugar and water in a pan till the sugar is dissolved. Simmer for 8-10 minutes.
  4. Add saffron and keep aside.
  5. Heat oil ina kadhai, make round balls out of the dal mix and deep fry them to a golden brown colour.
  6. Drain and add them to the syrup.
  7. Soak for a couple of hours before serving.
