2 cups chana dal (split Bengal gram)
6 cups water
1 large sized onion
1 tbsp olive oil
1 tsp garam masala
salt to taste

Preparation:

    Preparation:
  1. Simmer dal until tender. purée part of it.
  2. Carmelize onion in a bit of olive oil.
  3. Add garam masala and simmer a bit more.
  4. Add onions to dal.
