Chinese Upma recipe - How to make Chinese Upma

Makes 4 servings
2 cups semolina (rava)
1 tbsp urad dal (split black lentils)
2 tsp mustard seeds ( rai / sarson)
1/2 tsp asafoetida (hing)
a few curry leaves (kadi patta)
1 tbsp chana dal (split bengal gram)
2 tbsp ghee
1/2 cup chopped spring onions
1/4 cup chopped capsicum
1/2 cup finely chopped cabbage
1/4 cup chopped carrots
1 tbsp finely chopped coriander (dhania)
2 tsp chinese 5 spice powder
salt to taste
2 tsp chopped green chillies
2 tsp chopped ginger (adrak)
2 tsp chopped garlic (lehsun)
To Serve

Method
- Method
- Heat half of the ghee in a deep kadhai and add the ginger, garlic, green chilies and saute the vegetables in it on high for a minute.
- Add half of five spice powder and mix well. Remove and keep aside.
- Heat the remaining ghee in same kadhai, add all whole spices, urad dal, dairya dal and roast the semolina in it until it gives nice aroma and slightly pinkish.
- Add water, balance half of five spice powder, salt and cook well.
- ADd the vegetable so that they remain crispy and mix it well.
- Serve hot.
