Dal Roti recipe - How to make Dal Roti

Makes 2 to 4 rotis
1 cup toovar (arhar) dal
2 tsp chopped garlic (lehsun)
2 to 3 green chillies
salt to taste
1/2 tsp fried cumin seeds (jeera)
2 cups whole wheat flour (gehun ka atta)
oil for cooking

- Method
- Soak the dal in enough water for 4 to 5 hours.
- Drain the dal and combine the dal with garlic, chillies, cumin seeds and salt and blend in a mixer to smooth powder.
- Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and keep aside.
- Combine the wheat flour with enough water and knead into a soft dough.
- Divide the dough into 4 equal portions and roll out a portion of the dough into a circle of 4" diameter.
- Place a portion of the stuffing at the centre and bring the edges together at the centre to seal tightly.
- Roll out again into a circle of 6" diameter, using little whole wheat flour.
- Heat a tava and cook each roti, using little oil, till golden brown spots appear on both the sides.
- Repeat the same steps to make 3 more rotis.
- Serve hot.
