Makes 4 to 6 servings
For The Satay
10 to 12 idlis
1 tbsp ghee
1 tsp mustard seeds ( rai / sarson)
1 tsp urad dal (split black lentils)
1/2 tsp asafoetida (hing)
1 tsp sambhar masala
10 kiwi slices
10 potatoes slices
12 tomatoes slices
12 apple slices
salt to taste
1 tsp red chilli powder
1 tsp roasted cumin seeds (jeera) powder
1 small stick cinnamon (dalchini)
2 cloves (laung / lavang)
For The Garnish
grated paneer (cottage cheese)

- For the satay
- Heat 1 tbsp ghee in a kadhai and add the mustard seeds.
- When the seeds crackle, add the urad dal and asafoetida and saute till the dal turns golden brown.
- Add the sambhar masala, mix well and saute for half a minute and keep aside.
- Heat the remaining ghee in another pan, add the cinnamon, cloves, apples, tomato and potato slices and saute for half a minute.
- Add the salt, chilli powder, cumin seeds powder and mix well.
- Remove and keep aside.

- Take tooth picks or satay sticks.
- Pierce one idli, kiwi, potatoe, tomatoe, apple piece and repeat the sequence as per the length of the stick.
- Garnish with paneer and serve immediately with coconut chutney.
