Lasooni Dal recipe - How to make Lasooni Dal

Makes 4 servings
1 1/2 cups toovar (arhar) dal
a pinch of asafoetida (hing)
3 tbsp chopped garlic (lehsun)
2 tsp finely chopped green chillies
1 tsp chopped ginger (adrak)
2 tbsp ghee
1 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
1 tsp mustard seeds ( rai / sarson)
1 to 2 whole dry kashmiri red chillies
1 tbsp grated coconut
4 to 5 curry leaves (kadi patta)
salt to taste
4 tbsp chopped coriander (dhania)
Method
- Method
- Pressure cook the dal with enough water.
- Allow the steam to escape before opening the lid.
- Add the asafoetida, mix well, cover and keep aside.
- Combine the green chillies, ginger, garlic and cumin seeds and blend in a mixer till smooth. Keep aside.
- Heat the ghee in a deep pan and add the cumin seeds and mustard seeds.
- When the seeds crackle, add the red chillies and curry leaves and saute for few seconds.
- Add the dal, ground masala, salt and coconut, mix well and bring the dal to boil.
- Simmer for few seconds.
- Serve hot garnished with coriander.
