Basic rice :
in a microwave rice can be cooked quiet well if right proportion of water is added. for 1 cup of rice add 2 1/4 cups water and for
softer rice add 2 1/2 cups water and cook on high for 16-17 minutes and let it stand for 5 minutes.

25 gms butter
1 small onion, finely chopped
1/2 stick cinnamon (dalchini)
1/2 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
1 cardamom (elaichi)
a pinch of turmeric powder (haldi)
1 bayleaf (tejpatta)
salt to taste
175 gms long grained rice (basmati)
400 ml boiling water
Method
- Place the butter in a large bowl, heat on high for 1 minute until melted, stir in the onion cook for 2 minutes on high. add remaining ingredients mix well. cover with the boiling water, cook on medium high for 15-16 minutes until rice is tender, stir 2-3 times during cooking
