Saffron Orange Drink

Saffron is an obvious addition to traditional coolers and milk-based drinks, but did you ever think of adding it to orange juice? Well, you are in for an extraordinary culinary surprise.
This absolutely unique drink combines fresh orange juice and saffron, resulting in a lovely sunshine orange colour and a rejuvenating flavour, which has the tang of orange and the innate richness of saffron, the golden spice.

Saffron Orange Drink recipe - How to make Saffron Orange Drink

Makes 5 cups
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 tsp saffron (kesar) strands
5 cups fresh orange juice
- Method
- Combine the sugar with ½ cup of water in a broad non-stick pan and cook on a medium flame for 5 minutes or till the sugar melts.
- Remove from the flame, add the saffron, mix well and keep aside to cool for 15 to 20 minutes.
- Once cooled, combine the orange juice and sugar-saffron mixture in a deep bowl and mix well.
- Fill half of the 5 glasses with ice cubes, pour equal quantities of the drink into each glass and serve immediately.

There is a very minor twist to this orange juice, yet it tastes amazing. The very little quantity of safforn plays a major role in altering the taste of the drink. It has a very strong flavour. Everyone in my family loved it.
