Originally from Punjab, naan is a dish we almost always order at restaurants because of the misconception that it is tough to make at home! We suggest you make this whole wheat soya naan as it is similar to making a wheat naan except that we are using the addition of soya flour.

Soya is rich in Folic Acid, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Vitamin B1, 2, Protein. Soya naans are made with well-balanced proportions of soya flour and wheat flour for a protein-packed punch.

Tips to make soya naan: 1. If you do not have yeast you can replace it with 1 tsp baking soda. 2. Cover rest of the dough balls using muslin cloth while rolling naan. 3. Serve these naans hot for the best taste.

Soya Naan recipe - How to make Soya Naan

Ingredients


For Soya Naan
1 cup whole wheat flour (gehun ka atta)
1/2 cup soy flour
1 tsp sugar
1/2 tsp dry yeast
2 tbsp curd (dahi)
1/2 tsp oil
salt to taste

1 1/2 tsp butter for brushing

Method
For soya naan

    For soya naan
  1. To make {span class="bold1"}soya naan{/span}, combine the sugar, dry yeast and 1/4 cup of water in a small bowl. Cover and keep aside for 10 minutes.
  2. Combine the whole wheat flour, soya flour, yeast-sugar mixture, oil and salt in a deep bowl and knead into a soft dough using approx 1/2 cup water.
  3. Cover the dough with a lid and keep aside for 1 hour.
  4. Divide the dough into 6 equal portions.
  5. Press a portion of the dough flat on a rolling board. Roll out into an oblong of 150 mm. (6") using a little whole wheat flour for rolling.
  6. Heat a non-stick tava (griddle) and cook the naan on one side till it puffs slightly and then turn over.
  7. Cook it on the other side till it puffs a little and then roast it on an open flame till it turns golden brown in colour from both the sides.
  8. Repeat steps 5 to 7 to make 5 more naans.
  9. Brush each {span class="bold1"}soya naan{/span} with 1/4 tsp of butter and serve immediately.

  1. In a small bowl, add ½ tsp dry yeast.
  2. Add 1 tsp sugar.
  3. Add ¼ cup of warm water.
  4. Mix well.
  5. Cover and keep aside for 10 minutes.
  6. This is how it looks after the yeast activates.
  7. In another deep bowl, add 1 cup whole wheat flour.
  8. Add ½ cup soy flour.
  9. Add 2 tbsp curd.
  10. Add the yeast-sugar mixture.
  11. Add salt to taste.
  12. Add ½ cup water for kneading.
  13. Knead into a soft dough.
  14. Add ½ tsp oil over the dough.
  15. Apply it properly.
  16. Cover the dough using a damp muslin cloth and keep aside for 1 hour.
  17. Divide the dough into 6 equal portions.
