Dal pancharatna is a delightful recipe with the panch lentils cooked together. The thick and rich dal panchratna is best suited for parties and can be enjoyed with both rice and rotis.

Makes 4 to 5 servings
1/2 cup chana dal (split bengal gram)
1/2 cup toovar (arhar) dal
1/2 cup moong dal (split green gram)
1/4 cup urad dal (split black lentils)
1/2 cup masoor dal (split red lentil)
1/4 tsp turmeric powder (haldi)
1/2 tsp chilli powder
3/4 tsp coriander (dhania) powder
1/2 tsp garam masala
1/2 cup chopped tomatoes
1/2 cup chopped onions
salt to taste
5 tsp ghee
1/2 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
To Be Blended Into A Smooth Paste
5 tbsp grated coconut
ginger (adrak)
5 to 6 garlic (lehsun) cloves
4 green chillies
For Garnishing
chopped coriander (dhania) leaves
curry leaves
Method
- Method
- Combine the dals and pressure cook with enough water and turmeric till the dals are cooked.
- Allow the steam to escape before opening the lid and keep aside.
- Heat the ghee in a kadhai and add the cumin seeds.
- When the seeds crackle, add the onions and saute till they turn transparent.
- Add the tomatoes, mix well and saute for another 2 minutes.
- Add the cooked dals, ground paste, red chilli powder, coriander powder and salt, mix well and cook for 10 minutes or till raw smell goes.
- Serve hot for rotis and pulkas.
