  1. Heat a kadhai and lightly roast the moong and soak in enough water for 6 hours.
  2. Heat 2 tbsp ghee or oil in a pressure cooker and add the cumin seeds.
  3. When the seeds crackle, add the asafoetida and turmeric powder and saute for 10 seconds.
  4. Add the red chilli powder, coriander seeds powder and tomatoes and saute till they turn soft.
  5. Add the dal, 2 cups water and salt and mix well.
  6. Cover and pressure cook for 3 whistles.
  7. Allow the steam to escape before opening the lid, add 1 tsp ghee and coriander.
  8. Serve hot.
