Vermicelli upma is a delectable upma recipe with vermicelli or seviyan as ingredient. The vermicelli are roasted and cooked just like semolina upma with onion, mustard seeds, curry leaves, lime juice and chopped coriander leaves. An excellent breakfast item, vermicelli upma is easy and delicious.

Preparation Time:    Cooking Time:    Total Time:    Makes 4 servings

Ingredients

3 to 4 slices of bread
5 leftover idlis
4 green chillies , chopped
1 small piece of ginger (adrak) , grated
3 onions , finely chopped
1 tsp turmeric powder (haldi)
salt to taste
4 to 5 curry leaves (kadi patta)
2 to 3 tbsp oil
1 tsp mustard seeds ( rai / sarson)
1 tsp ghee

    Method
  1. Cut the bread slices into medium large pieces and keep aside.
  2. Cut the idli also into pieces and keep aside.
  3. Heat the oil in a kadhai and add the mustard seeds.
  4. When the seeds crackle, add the green chillies, ginger and onions and saute till the onions turn golden brown.
  5. Add the curry leaves, turmeric powder and salt and mix well.
  6. Add the bread pieces and idli and mix well.
  7. Serve hot with dallop of ghee.
