Pataka Chawal recipe - How to make Pataka Chawal

1 cup Steamed Rice
6 to 7 tbsp tomato puree
2 tbsp urad dal (split black lentils)
3 whole dry kashmiri red chillies, broken into pieces
1 tbsp coriander (dhania) powder
1/2 cup freshly grated coconut
2 tbsp chana dal (split Bengal gram)
7 to 8 ml curry leaves (kadi patta)
2 tbsp chopped coriander (dhania)
salt to taste
a pinch of turmeric powder (haldi)
3 tbsp coconut oil
1 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
1/2 tsp mustard seeds ( rai / sarson)
Method
- In a non-stick kadai, dry roast urad dal, red chillies whole, coriander seeds, chana dal and cumin seeds on low flame till light brown.
- Add grated coconut and dry roast for few more minutes. cool and keep aside.
- Grind all the ingredients without water. keep aside.
- Heat coconut oil in a kadhai, add mustard seeds and curry leaves, when they crackle add tomato puree and sauté for 4 to 5 minutes.
- Add salt and turmeric powder and sauté for 5 minutes on a low flame.
- Add the ground powder and cooked rice and sauté for 5 to 6 minutes on low flame till mix properly.
- Serve hot garnished with coriander.
