Makes 4 servings
100 gms moong dal (split green gram)
100 gms beaten rice (poha)
2 tsp sambhar powder
1 tsp jaggery (gur)
3 tsp tamarind (imli) water
2 small sticks of cinnamon (dalchini)
2 cups chopped mixed vegetables (french beans , potatoes , carrots ,
tomato , capsicum and green peas)
1 onion , chopped
salt to taste
oil for cooking
1 tsp turmeric powder (haldi)
1 tsp mustard seeds ( rai / sarson)
4 to 5 curry leaves (kadi patta)
Method
- Method
- Soak poha in water for 15 mins.
- Combine the moong dal and vegetables and pressure cook for 1 whistle or till half cooked.
- Heat the oil in a kadhai and add the mustard seeds.
- When the seeds crackle, add the haldi and curry leaves and saute for 10 seconds.
- Add the onions and saute till they turn golden brown.
- Add the dal, vegetables, drained poha, salt, sambar powder, jaggary, tamarind juice and enough water, mix well and cook on low fire for 10 more mins.
- Serve hot.
