Thick dhal kootu is a lentil curry with a traditional South Indian style of cooking. The dals are cooked with vegetables, tamarind pulp and ground coconut and relished with rice or appams as main course meal option.

Method

  1. Use only channa dhal-boil with a pinch of turmeric pwd. (do not add green chillies/garlic/tomatoes etc.,);
  2. When dhal is boiled strain away the water, mash the dhal & keep aside.
  3. Season with mustard seeds, curry leaves; dry chillies; & asafetida, salt to taste.
