Green Gram Halwa

A sweet delicacy, the green gram halwa is made from boiled green gram or moong dal which is cooked with sugar and ghee till done and lumpy. Add chopped nuts as garnish and enjoy as dessert after meals.

1 cup moong dal (split green gram)
1 cup milk
2 cups sugar
3/4 cup ghee
50 gms cashewnuts (kaju)
cardamom (elaichi) powder to taste
1 drop of orange colour

- Method
- Heat a kadhai and roast the green gram till it turns into reddish brown in colour.
- Wash, transfer in a pressure cooked and add the milk and 2 1/2 cups water, mix well and pressure cook for 2 whistles.
- Transfer in the kadhai, add the sugar and mix well and saute till the mixture leaves the sides.
- Garnish with cashewnut and cardamom powder.
- Serve hot.

I have tried this recipe. Its not really a good one. I made exactly as per the instructions but it tastes nothing different than a puran poli puran. I think there is a fault with the measurements. the texture was not a bit close to halwa texture
