Untainted by additives, made with fruit and nothing but fruit, this fresh pear juice is a fabulously refreshing experience. The naturally attractive aroma and pleasing colour of pear make this juice seem like nectar.

Indeed, there is goodness oozing out of every sip. This homemade pear juice is brimming with vitamin C. A glass of pear juice fulfills 24% of our day’s requirement of this vitamin. This key nutrient helps us to build a healthy immune system and fight various diseases like common cold and cough. It also prevents the onset of chronic diseases like cancer and heart disease by maintaining cell health.

People with heart disease can have ½ cup of this fresh pear juice. Some amount of fiber is lost in straining. Hence, we suggest they should avoid straining the juice to retain most of the fiber. It is the fiber which helps to maintain healthy cholesterol levels.

Kids and senior citizens can also sip on this pear juice for babies during summers. It is the perfect way to make up for your fluid intake and maintain water balance in the body.

Tips for pear juice. 1. Pear Juice is quite sweet by itself. Avoid adding extra sugar and extra calories. 2. Just make sure you have it as soon as it is blended and strained. This is to avoid the juice from changing its colour. Moreover, vitamin C is a volatile nutrient. Some of it is lost on exposure to air. 3. We do not recommend this juice for diabetics.

Notes for Pear Juice

  1. Pear Juice can be served to kids, adults as well as senior citizens.
  2. Pear has a good quantum of vitamin C which helps to build immunity and protects against chronic diseases like heart disease and cancer.
  3. If you are using a hopper to make Pear juice, you can avoid peeling the pears.
  4. Do not add extra salt or sugar while blending Pear Juice. Enjoy its natural taste.
  5. Do not serve Pear Juice to diabetic patients as juices are not a very good choice for them. They are usually a concentrated source of carbs which may alter the blood sugar levels.

For Fresh Pear Juice

  1. To make Fresh Pear Juice, select perfectly ripe pear. Juicy and sweet, with a soft, buttery yet somewhat grainy texture, the white to cream-colored flesh of pears was once referred to as the "gift of the gods". Look for pears that are firm green coloured pear, but not too hard. They should have a smooth skin that is free of bruises or mold. Avoid pears that are punctured or have dark soft spots. 2. Wash the ripe pear in a bowlful of water or running water to remove dirt if any.
  3. Wipe it off using a clean kitchen towel.
  4. Peel the pear using a sharp knife. Do not peel it very thickly as much of the finer lies beneath the skin.
  5. Cut the pear into 2 halves vertically with a sharp knife.
  6. Deseed the pear and discard the seeds. The seeds might make the juice bitter.
  7. Cut into cubes using a sharp knife. 2½ medium pear will yield approximately 1½ cups of pear cubes.
  8. Transfer the pear cubes into a mixer jar.
  9. Add ½ cup of water and blend till the mixture is smooth. No cubes should remain after blending.
  10. Strain the Pear Juice using a strainer.  However this would lead to loss of fiber. If you want a thick fibrous Pear puree, avoid this step of straining.
  11. Serve the Pear Juice immediately to avoid discoloration.

Having strained the pears I kept the mush and put it through a mouli to make a nice puree then ate this with yoghurt. No added sugar or water. I used pear windfalls from a tree in my garden. Lots of them this year.
