Makes 4 servings
1 cup rice (chawal)
1/2 cup moong dal (split green gram)
2 tbsp ghee
4 cloves (laung / lavang)
1 inch stick cinnamon (dalchini)
1 tsp mustard seeds ( rai / sarson)
2 tsp chopped ginger (adrak)
3 tsp chopped garlic (lehsun)
1/2 tsp turmeric powder (haldi)
salt to taste

- Method
- Clean, wash the rice and moong dal together and soak in enough water for an hour.
- Drain and keep aside.
- Heat the ghee in a pressure cooker and add the cloves, cinnamon and mustard seeds.
- When the seeds crackle, add the ginger and garlic sauté for 30 seconds.
- Add the rice, moong dal, turmeric powder and salt, mix well and add 5 cups of water and mix well.
- Cover and pressure cook for 3 whistles or till cooked.
- Serve hot.
