Ingredients


For Lachko Dal
1 cup toovar (arhar) dal
1 tbsp ghee
1/2 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
1/2 tsp turmeric powder (haldi)
1 tbsp grated jaggery (gur)
salt to taste

Method
For lachko dal

    For lachko dal
  1. To make {span class="bold1"}lachko dal{/span} combine toovar dal with 1 1/2 cups of water and pressure cook for 2 to 3 whistles. Keep aside.
  2. Heat the ghee in a deep pan and add the cumin seeds.
  3. When the seeds crackle, add the toovar dal, turmeric powder, jaggery, salt and 1/4 cup water, mix well and cook on a slow flame for 6 minutes or till the dal thickens a bit, while stirring occasionally.
  4. Serve {span class="bold1"}lachko dal{/span} hot with rice and ghee.

  2. Put the toovar dal in a bowl of water. With your fingers rub the dal and you can see the dirt. Change the water a 2 to 3 times till dal is clean.
  3. Toovar dal is now clean.
