How to make Popcorn in a Microwave

  1. To make microwave popcorn in a bowl, take a large microwave safe bowl and add 1 tbsp butter to it. We are making the popcorn in butter, but you can use oil or ghee as well.
  2. Heat it in a microwave for 30 seconds till the butter has melted.
  3. To this, add the ¼ cup of corn kernels. These are easily available in the market. This is much cheaper than store-bought popcorn and the ready to pop microwave packets.
  4. Also add salt to this. Add only a little salt as the butter is salted. If you are using ghee or oil, you might need more salt.
  5. Mix well so that all the kernels are coated with butter. If they are not coated, they will not pop.
  6. Cover it with a microwave safe plate and microwave on high for 3½ to 4 minutes. The time will vary depending on the microwave you have. Be careful while removing the bowl from the microwave, it will be very hot so you should use gloves.
  7. Serve the Homemade Butter Microwave Popcorn immediately before they turn soggy.

Tips for Homemade Microwave Popcorn

  1. If you are covering the bowl with a microwav safe lid, make sure there is a tiny escape route for steam or else the microwave will explode.
  2. Once the popcorn is made, you can make other variations by mixing the ready popcorn with cheese powder or even chaat masala!

Hi Shona, popping of the corns depends upon the quality of corns, as though there will be very few which will not pop. It is fine.. if that happens. But make sure you buy a good quality dry corn.. and mix it well with the melted butter before you microwave, and microwave on HIGH for 5 minutes.
