spicy tava idli is a popular restaurant style tava idli. Simple to make spicy tava idli with leftover idlis cooked on a tawa with Indian spices, vegetables and some butter. We have used onions and tomatoes but you can put capsicums or any vegetable you like.
We love to have spicy tava idli made with left over idlis with some coconut chutney to offset the spices from the idli.

For Spicy Tava Idli
8 leftover idlis , cut into cubes
1 tbsp butter
1/2 tsp garlic (lehsun) paste
1/2 cup finely chopped onions
1/2 cup finely chopped tomatoes
1/4 tsp turmeric powder (haldi)
1/2 tsp chilli powder
1 tsp pav bhaji masala
salt to taste
1 tsp lemon juice
2 tbsp finely chopped coriander (dhania)
For The Garnish
2 tbsp finely chopped coriander (dhania)

- To make {span class="bold1"}spicy tava idli{/span}, heat the butter in a non-stick; add the garlic paste and sauté on a medium flame for 30 seconds.
- Add the onions, mix well and sauté on a medium flame for 2 to 3 minutes,or till the onions turn translucent.
- Add the tomatoes, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 1 to 2 minutes, while stirring occasionally.
- Add the turmeric powder, chilli powder, pav bhaji masala, mix well and sauté on a medium flame for 1 minute.
- Add 2 tbsp of water and salt, mix well and sauté on a medium flame for 1 minute.
- Add the lemon juice, coriander, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 1 minute, while stirring continuously.
- Add the idlis, toss lightly and cook on a medium flame for 1 to 2 minutes, while stirring occasionally.
- Serve the {span class="bold1"}spicy tava idli{/span} hot garnished with coriander.

How to make Spicy tava idli

To prepare spicy tava idli, heat the butter in a broad non-stick pan. You can also put some oil to prevent the butter from burning. Butter gives a really nice flavor to the spicy tava idlis so make sure you use butter.
