Healthful spinach bound in soft cottage cheese flavoured with a novel combination of green chillies and nutmeg powder, is shaped into balls and steamed to make fluffy dumplings. Ingredients


For The Spinach and Cottage Cheese Dumplings
1 1/2 cups finely chopped spinach (palak)
5 tbsp crumbled paneer (cottage cheese)
1 tsp finely chopped green chillies
a pinch of nutmeg (jaiphal) powder
2 tbsp plain flour (maida)
a pinch of baking powder
salt to taste

For The Tomato Sauce
2 cups roughly chopped tomatoes
1 tbsp sugar
1/2 tsp dried oregano
a pinch of carom seeds (ajwain)
1/2 tsp chilli powder
1 tbsp tomato ketchup
salt to taste

Other Ingredients
2 tbsp grated processed cheese

Method
For the spinach and cottage cheese dumplings

  1. Combine all the ingredients in a bowl and mix well.
  2. Divide the mixture into 12 equal portions and roll each portion into a round dumpling.
  3. Arrange the dumplings on a greased sieve and steam in a steamer for 4 to 5 minutes. Keep aside.

For the tomato sauce

  1. Combine the tomatoes with ΒΌ cup of water, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 4 to 5 minutes or till the tomatoes are soft, while stirring occasionally.
  2. Allow the tomatoes to cool completely, once cooled blend in a mixer till smooth and strain it with help of a strainer.
  3. Transfer the mixture into a non-stick pan, add the sugar, oregano, carom seeds, chilli powder, tomato ketchup and salt, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 1 to 2 minutes, while stirring occasionally. Keep aside.

  1. Place the spinach and cottage cheesed dumplings on a serving plate, pour the tomato sauce evenly over it and finally sprinkle the grated cheese and serve immediately.
