Chana Chaat

Here is a quick and exciting version of Chana Chaat, which kids will love even more than the elaborate version. Loaded with refreshing cucumber, succulent paneer, crunchy spring onions and other flavourful ingredients, this Chana Chaat is sure to be enjoyed thoroughly by kids.
A dash of chaat masala and tomato ketchup work together to create a tongue-tickling flavour, which will delight the young palate. You could help your kids to prepare the ingredients, and let them toss it together themselves, so they can get a kick out of imitating the deft movements of the roadside chaat vendors.

Makes 4 servings
1 1/2 cups soaked and boiled kabuli chana (white chick peas)
1/2 cup paneer (cottage cheese) cubes
1/2 cucumber
1 spring onion
2 tbsp tomato ketchup
1 tsp chaat masala
1 tsp chopped coriander (dhania) leaves
salt to taste
- Method
- Peel the cucumber and cut into small pieces. Keep aside.
- Chop the spring onion whites and greens. Keep aside.
- Combine the chick peas, paneer, cucumber and spring onions in a deep bowl and mix well.
- Add the tomato ketchup, chaat masala, coriander and salt and toss well.
- Serve immediately.

To make the chana chaat recipe | chole chaat | chickpea chaat | wash and soak 1 1/2 cups of kabuli chana overnight in a deep bowl. Note that 3/4 cup kabuli chana will give you 2 cups soaked and cooked kabuli chana.

In the morning, drain well using a strainer.

Transfer the soaked chana to a pressure cooker.

Add the salt and XX cups of water.

Pressure cook it for 4 to 5 whistles over a medium flame or until they are soft. Allow the steam to escape naturally and then carefully open the lid.

- In a deep bowl put the soaked and cooked kabuli chana.
- Add 1/2 cup paneer (cottage cheese) cubes. @s.. increase paneer if required.
- Add 1/4 cup chopped cucumber.
- Add 1/4 cup finely chopped spring onion whites and greens.
- Add 1/4 cup chopped coloured capsicum.
- Add 1 tsp chaat masala.
- Add 2 tsp finely chopped green chillies.
- Add 2 tablespoons finely chopped coriander (dhania) leaves.
- Add 1 tablespoon tamarind chutney. (optional ) @s to taste.
- Add salt to taste.
