To make Indian oats pancake with jowar, combine all the ingredients in a deep bowl, add approx. ¾ cup of water and mix well to make a thick batter. Heat a non-stick tava (griddle) and grease it lightly using ¼ tsp of oil. Pour a ladleful of the batter on the tava (griddle) and spread in a circular motion to make a 100 mm. (4”) diameter round pancake. Cook on a slow flame till it turns golden brown in colour from both the sides, using ¼ tsp of oil. Repeat with the remaining batter to make 3 more pancakes. Serve the indian oats pancake with jowar hot with the green chutney.

Jowar oats pancake are made by adding 3 types of flours – wheat flour, oats flour and jowar flour, and all of them are enriched with nutrients. These pancakes are highly nutritious and filled with cholesterol-fighting soluble fiber.

1/4 cup quick cooking rolled oats
1/4 cup whole wheat flour (gehun ka atta)
1/4 cup jowar (white millet) flour
1/4 cup finely chopped onions
1/4 cup finely chopped tomatoes
salt to taste
1 1/2 tsp ginger-green chilli paste
2 tbsp chopped coriander (dhania)
3 tsp peanut oil for greasing and cooking

Like Indian Oats Pancake with Jowar

  1.  Like Indian Oats Pancake with JowarOats are gluten-free.They are also high in soluble fibres and antioxidants making them a perfect ingredient for people suffering insulin resistance, heart disorders or even obesity. They are basically found in three forms : old-fashioned oats, steel cut oats and quick rollin oats. Below are some of my favorite recipes made using quick cooking rolled oats :

Batter for Indian Oats Pancake with Jowar

  1. For making the batter for  Indian Oats Pancake with Jowar, in a deep bowl take quick cooking rolled oats. We are not using oats flour as we want a little chunky textured pancake.
  2. Add the whole wheat flour. Atta is healthy and provides our body with many nutrients. Check out our article on 11 Super Health Benefits of Whole Wheat Flour (Atta) to know more.
  3. For making the batter for  Indian Oats Pancake with Jowar, in a deep bowl take quick cooking rolled oats. We are not using oats flour as we want a little chunky textured pancake.
  4. Add the finely chopped onions.
  5. Add the finely chopped tomatoes. Additionally, to make it more colourful and nutritious, you can add capsicum, spinach, bell peppers, grated cabbage, carrot, beetroot.
  6. Add salt, ginger-green chilli paste. If you are in a hurry, quickly chop them and add to the oats pancake batter.
  7. Add the chopped coriander. You can even add dry spices like turmeric powder, chilli powder or garam masala to perk up the batter but, since this  Indian Oats Pancake with Jowar is for people with cholesterol and heart disease we are using limited ingredients.
  8. Gradually, add water, we have used approx. ¾ cup. You may need 1 to 2 tbsp more as well.
  9. Mix well to make a thick batter. The consistency should be pouring similar to a dosa batter. If the batter has turned runny mistakenly then add a tablespoon of wheat or jowar flour.

How to make Indian oats pancake:

  1. For making the  Indian Oats Pancake with Jowar, heat a non-stick tava (griddle) and grease it lightly using ¼ tsp of oil. If you have a mini uttapam pan then make mini oats pancakes using it.
  2. Pour a ladleful of the batter on the tava (griddle). Spread in a circular motion to make a 100 mm. (4”) diameter round pancake.
  3. Cook on a slow flame till it turns brown in colour from one side.
  4. Flip it and cook on the other side using ¼ tsp of oil. You can make use of olive oil too.
  5. Cook the  Indian Oats Pancake with Jowar on both sides and remove in a plate.
  6. Remember to stir the batter every time before pouring on the tava so the veggies and batter is equally distributed. Repeat with the remaining batter to make 3 more savoury oats pancakes with Jowar.

This recipe is so tempting. But I am on gluten free diet could you recommend any other flour besides Wheat flour ? Do you think rice flour might work ? I appreciate your time and help.

   Yes you can try rice flour, ragi flour or jowar flour, but ensure to adjust the consistency of the batter with water depending on the flour used.
