Makes 4 servings
For Moong Dal ka Shorba
3/4 cup yellow moong dal (split yellow gram)
1/2 cup finely chopped onions
1/2 cup chopped tomatoes
1 slit green chilli
1 tsp chilli powder
1/2 tsp chopped ginger (adrak)
1/2 tsp turmeric powder (haldi)
1 tsp garam masala
salt to taste
1 tbsp ghee
1 tbsp finely chopped garlic (lehsun)
For The Garnish
a sprig of coriander (dhania)
For moong dal ka shorba
- For moong dal ka shorba
- To make {span class="bold1"}moong dal ka shorba{/span}, clean, wash and soak the yellow moong dal for 30 minutes. Drain.
- Combine the dal, onions, tomatoes, green chilli, chilli powder, ginger, turmeric powder, garam masala, salt and 2 cups of water, mix well and pressure cook for 3 whistles.
- Allow the steam to escape before opening the lid.
- Heat the ghee in a deep kadhai, add the garlic and sauté on a medium flame for a few seconds.
- Add the cooked moong-dal mixture and 1 cup of water, mix well using a whisk and cook on a medium flame for 1 to 2 minutes.
- Add 1 more cup of water, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 3 to 4 minutes, while stirring occasionally with help of a whisk. Finally discard the green chilli.
- Serve the {span class="bold1"}moong dal ka shorba{/span} hot garnished with a sprig of coriander.
