tandoori aloo tikka recipe is one of our favorite starter dishes which we order often in restaurants. So, I had to give it a shot and create a recipe that can be done at home also, with ease without using tandoor.
This restaurant style tandoori aloo which is not just brimming with flavor, but is simple to make appetizer too. Potatoes are marinated with a curd based marinate which is spicy and chatpata and charred on open flame for the restaurant style tandoor effect at home.
Tips to make tandoori aloo: 1. You can also use baby potatoes to make this recipe. 2. If you do not have steel skewer, you can cook this tandoori aloo on pan. 3. If you like you can also use coloured capsicum cubes instead of green capsicum.

Makes 5 skewers
For Tandoori Aloo
2 cups par-boiled potatoes big cubes
1/2 cup onion cubes
1/2 cup tomato cubes
1/2 cup capsicum cubes
1/4 cup melted butter
1 small charcoal piece
1/2 tsp ghee
For The Marinade
1/2 cup thick curd (dahi)
1 tbsp roasted besan (bengal gram flour)
1 tbsp ginger-garlic (adrak-lehsun) paste
1/2 tsp turmeric powder (haldi)
1 1/2 tbsp red chilli powder
2 tsp lemon juice
1 tsp coriander-cumin seeds (dhania-jeera) powder
1 tsp garam masala
2 tsp chaat masala
salt to taste
1 tbsp dried fenugreek leaves (kasuri methi)
2 tbsp hot mustard (rai / sarson) oil
For Serving With Tandoori Aloo

- For tandoori aloo
- To make {span class="bold1"}tandoori aloo{/span}, combine all the ingredients of the marinade in a deep bowl and mix well.
- Add onion cubes, tomato cubes, capsicum cubes and par boiled potato cubes.
- Gently mix to coat them well in the marinade. Make a space in the center and place a vati.
- Now give smoke of live charcoal and put ghee over it cover the bowl and keep aside for 2-3 minutes.
- Arrange the marinated onion, tomato, capsicum and potato on a wooden skewer.
- Cook the skewer on an open flame for 3 to 4 minutes while applying melted butter all over until they get charred evenly.
- Serve {span class="bold1"}tandoori aloo{/span} hot with green chutney and pickled onions.

The receipe did not come out well at all. The quantity of oil, water mentioned looks wrong. This should need half the oil and half the water mentioned above
