1/4 cup pomegranate (anar)
1/4 cup finely chopped apple
1/2 cup soaked and boiled kabuli chana (white chick peas)
restricted quantity of salt
1/4 tsp cumin seeds (jeera) powder

  1. For Chana Salad for Kids and Toddlers, you first need to prepare the kabuli chana. For that choose good quality of kabuli chana. The chana should be uniformly coloured and dust-free as well as without stones, debris and insects. 
  2. Clean and wash the kabuli chana in enough water. 
  3. Drain the water using a strainer. 
  4. Add more water and allow the kabuli chana to soak for at least 8 to 10 hours. Use warm water if you want to reduce the soaking time to 6 to 7 hours. 
  5. Drain away this water in which the chana for Fruity Chana Salad for Kids were soaked. 
  6. Add more water and pressure cook the kabuli chana for 4 to 5 whistles or till they are evenly cooked. You can add little salt at this stage and avoid it late if you wish to.

  8. Drain the excess water and discard it. Keep the cooked kabuli chana aside to cool slightly.

  10. Peel the orange and separate the segments. 
  11. Peel the orange segments, dessed them very well and cut into halves. Ensure that no seeds remain as that may lead to choking. Keep the orange halves aside. 
  12. Then you need good quality pomegranate. When choosing your perfect pomegranate, look at the skin. It should be thin, tough, and unbroken, indicating the flavor is well developed. The fruit should be plump and round, heavy for their size, with a rich, fresh color and should be free of cuts and blemishes.
  13. Separate the pomegranate seeds and keep aside. Ensure to remove and discard all the white pith as baby may not find it palatable at all. 
  14. Then buy good quality apples too for Fruity Chana Salad for Kids. One of the most delicious of fruits, the apple is available almost all over the world, and almost throughout the year. Look for well coloured apples that are firm with a fresh fragrance. The skin should be smooth, with no bruises or black spots.  
  15. Wash the apple very well with clean water to make it free of dirt if any . Wash it under running water to prevent any sort of contamination.
     

  16. Wipe it with a clean kitchen towel, deseed and finely chop them. To peel or not to peel depends on whether your toddler is used to it. So take your own decision. But finely chopping is very crucial to avoid choking.

    1 1/2 tbsp peeled and grated bottle gourd (doodhi / lauki)

    3. Allow the steam to escape before opening the lid.
    4. When it is done, remove the peppercorn and clove. Mash the khichdi a little with the back of a spoon.
    5. Serve lukewarm with fresh curds.

    1. Combine the masoor dal and ¾ cup of water in a pressure cooker, mix well and pressure cook for 3 whistles.
    2. Allow the steam to escape before opening the lid. Keep aside.
    3. Heat the ghee in a deep non-stick pan and add the cumin seeds and asafoetida.
    4. When the seeds crackle, add the onions and ginger-garlic paste and sauté on a medium flame for 30 seconds.
    5. Add the spinach, turmeric powder, chilli powder and salt, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 1 minute, while stirring occasionally.
    6. Add the cooked dal and mash well with a potato masher. Add ¼ cup of water, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 2 minutes, while stirring occasionally.
    7. Serve the palak masoor dal for babies and toddlers lukewarm.
