Spinach kootu or keerai kottu is a South Indian vegetable curry recipe with the spinach leaves made into a puree and then tempered with mustard seeds, chillies, curry leaves, tamarind water and grated coconut. The spinach kottu is best paired with hot steamed rice.

Method


  1. Grind the rasam powder & grated coconut to a smooth paste and keep aside.
  2. Mix spinach and moong dal together in a vessel and pressure cook for 10 minutes.
  3. After 15-20 minutes take out the spinach from cooker.
  4. Heat ghee in a pan. add the mustard seeds and let it splutter.
  5. Add the cumin seeds and fry for a minute.
  6. Add the cooked spinach & dal mixture to the mustard seeds mixture.
  7. Add salt, a pinch of turmeric powder, ground paste and bring to a boil.
  8. Serve hot with plain rice and pappad.
