The first thing we all can think about karelas is their bitterness. But karela is extremely beneficial for diabetics and one can enjoy it more if you acquire the taste for it in the form of

These innovative
easy Gujarati Karela thepla make use of the peels of the karela which we usually throw away. Wash and chop the peels into small pieces before adding it to the dough. While the karela is beneficial to manage blood sugar levels, you can also benefit from these theplas.
To make
karela thepla, combine all the ingredients in a deep bowl and knead into a semi-stiff dough using enough water and knead well. Divide the dough into 10 equal portions and roll each portion of the dough into a 125 mm. (5") diameter circle using a little whole wheat flour for rolling. Heat a non-stick tava (griddle) and cook them using ¼ tsp of oil, till golden brown spots appear on both the sides. Serve immediately.
The use of whole wheat flour and bajra flour ensure a dose of
fibre further – a nutrient which is also needed to manage sugar levels. This
Karela masala roti is cooked with minimal oil, thus making it
heart-friendly too. Pull together garlic and a couple of spices and you get a strong flavour that will warm your taste buds.
Tips for
karela thepla. 1. Bajra flour, if unavailable, can be replaced with other flours like jowar flour, ragi flour or oats flour. 2. Enjoy them hot immediately with a bowl curd as a complete nourishing meal.
