List of Foods to be restricted by Diabetics, Veg Indian

Diabetics can live a healthy life when they make healthy choices and have small frequent meals. Given below is a list of Foods that Diabetics should eat in restricted quantity.

These are foods with a high glycemic index which can escalate the blood sugar levels faster than foods with a low glycemic index. Avoid starchy foods like corn, potatoes, pasta etc. Choose slow releasing carbohydrates like carrots, apples, broccoli, blueberries, broccoli, kale, oatmeal and many more.

Slow releasing carbohydrates make you feel full for a longer time and prevent you from binge eating. Eat fibre rich fruits and vegetables. Try our healthy salads which will keep you full due to the fibre and protein in it.

Should you be eating Potatoe sabzis like Mashed Potatoes or Parsley Potatoes or the ever famous Aloo Matter. No. If at all, eat very small amounts of potatoes as they are not Daibetic friendly.

Skip plain flour in your meals. They appear in Bread, Muffins, Indian Sweets and the list goes on. Plain flour is refined and the better option or substitute is Whole Wheat flour, Bajra Flour or Ragi Flour. So instead of a Paneer Naan opt for a Whole Wheat Roti or Bajra Roti

Instead of Grapes and Pineapple, opt for Strawberries, Apple, Oranges, Sweet Lime and other low GI fruits. Substitute regular pasta with whole wheat pasta. Instead of white rice, try brown rice or Buckwheat Khichdi. These simple changes will go along way in having a healthier and fitter life. Don't forget to also exercise on a regular basis and that is key to a healthy heart, clean skin and good blood flow and stronger muscles. Last but least, live a life stress free. Do the right things.

To live a healthy life style, eat small healthy meals on a regular basis. This will prevent your body from having large surges in blood sugar levles and hence hasten the fat burning procees in your body to make you lean. Also keep to the minimum Forbidden Foods for Diabetics and know the basics of ABC Diabetes care. If you must have sweets, then eat in moderation from these Diabetic friendly sweets

Potatoes are starchy and will push your blood sugar up and hence if eaten at all should be done in very small quantities. Even if you are not diabetic and want to lead a healthy life, then avoid potatoes.

The sweet potato has yellow or orange flesh, and its thin skin may either be white, yellow, orange, red or purple. But its high in carbohydrates and hence not suitable for diabetics and even for those who want to live a healthy life style.

Maida finds its way into almost everything we eat. From biscuits, pancakes, cakes, pastries, kulcha, puris, rumali rots. It has no nutritional value and shuts down the fat burning process in the body. So avoid it at all costs.

Pineapple usage should be restricted as its sweet and raises your blood sugar level. Even this is recommended to restrict for overall good health.

Avoid pasta but a better option is whole wheat pasta. We have a recipe which you can have Chunky Tomato Pasta made specially for diabetics. Good idea is to switch your regular pasta to whole wheat pasta. Also, restrict the quantity of whole wheat pasta as anything wheat based is not going to be healthy for you.

I would totally drop rice and replace it with brown rice or buckwheat or red rice and that too have that in small quantities. Note that rice is high in carbs. Given above is a recipe of Buckwheat, Moong and Vegetable Khichdi which you can have occasionally.
