What is apple sauce, seb ka sauce?


Apple sauce is a basic apple puree which can be cooked or uncooked and is flavoured with spices like cinnamon and sweetened with sugar. The difference between apple sauce and apple puree is that apple sauce may include large chunks of apple which is devoid in apple puree. It is commonly consumed in the US where it is served by itself. Apple sauce comes in various textures- it may be coarse or a fine paste.

To make 1 cup apple sauce at home, follow this easy recipe.

Peel, core and deseed the apples (2 to 3 large) and cut into quarters. Place in a saucepan along with 2 to 3 tbsp sugar (depending on the tartness of the apples). Add 1 tsp of lemon juice and cover and cook on a medium flame for 8 to 10 minutes, or till the apples are soft. The moisture in the apples is enough to cook them and there is no need to add water. Once cooked, add spices like ground cinnamon, allspice etc and cook for 2 more minutes. Cool and puree in a blender. Reheat if required.

Culinary Uses of apple sauce, seb ka sauce


· Apple sauce is used as an accompaniment to meat and is best served with pork. In Sweden, the classic sauce which goes with roast pork is apple sauce.
· They taste delicious with potato pancakes etc.
· Concentrated apple sauce is called apple butter which is used as a spread on open toasts, sandwiches etc. It can also be used as a filling in pies.
