Description
Grater is also known as shredder, which is a kitchen utensil with sharp edged perforations used to shred or grate vegetables and fruits into thin or thick shreds. Several types of graters are available in market featuring different sizes of grating slots, and can therefore aid in the preparation of a variety of foods. They are commonly used to grate cheese and lemon or orange peel (to create zest), and can also be used to grate other soft foods. Graters can also be used to grate potatoes and other vegetables as well. Graters produce shreds that are thinner at the ends than the middle. This allows the grated material to melt or cook in a different manner than the shreds of mostly uniform thickness produced by the grating blade of a food processor.
How to Select
Choose the size and shape of grater according to your requirement. If you need thick shreds, select a grated with thicker perforations or if you need thin shreds, choose the grater with thinner perforations. Also, these days one grater is compiled with 3 or 4 kinds of shreds, which is more economical and convenient. Normally these are made of stainless steel, also other material are available like wooden grater with steel blades, so choose according to your requirement.
