Description
A rolling pin is a cylindrical stick used to roll out dough on a rolling board. It is generally made of wood but is also available in other materials like metal, plastic, ceramic, marble, etc. Rolling pins consists of a thick cylindrical roller with small handles on both the sides to hold them and roll them as required. They are available in different styles too; some are flat and thin, some have grill-like patterns onthem for forming lines on the dough while rolling, some have grooves to impart certain designs on the rolled dough, and so on. These are called textured rolling pins. Plain rolling pins are used to make rotis, parathas, and otherrecipes that call for plain surfaces of dough. In India, rolling pins are used in combination with rolling boards,but sometimes they may also be used on any plain, clean, flat surface.

How to select
While buying rolling pins, choose the material, size and design according to your needs. For example, if you want to make plain rotis or parathas, choose a rolling pin that is plain and if you want to roll out a patterned design, choose a textured rolling pin.
