Aluminium foil, Tin Foil

Description
Aluminum foil is probably the most convenient accessory of all. Foil can be used to cook food on or in. It also serves as a drip pan and heat deflector. Vegetables cook best when wrapped in foil. Foil holds in natural liquids, and foods cook moist and tender. Delicate foods may be cooked on foil placed directly on the cooking grid.

The aluminum seal serves two purposes - it is a freshness seal and a safety seal.

Actually, it makes no difference which side of the aluminum foil you use-both sides do the same fine job of cooking, freezing and storing food. The difference in appearance between dull and shiny is due to the foil manufacturing process. In the final rolling step, two layers of foil are passed through the rolling mill at the same time. The side coming in contact with the mill's highly polished steel rollers becomes shiny. The other side, not coming in contact with the heavy rollers, comes out with a dull or matte finish.

Standard aluminum foil is an excellent for wrapping sandwiches, covering bowls and containers with lost lids, wrapping all sizes of vegetables for the refrigerator, or reheating pizza in oven or toaster oven.

Heavy duty aluminum foil is better for wrapping foods for the freezer, lining roasting pans for easy cleanup, lining the inside of a charcoal barbecue grill to keep it clean, to avoid over-browning, and making an oven packet for cooking vegetables.

How to Select
Aluminium foil is widely sold into the market, usually in rolls of around 50 centimeters width and several meters in length.

Culinary Uses
· For conventional oven baking, the most common folly is to wrap the potato in aluminum foil. Covering the potato holds in moisture, steaming the potato. The result is a less crispy skin and the texture of a boiled potato.
· Aluminum foil is an excellent for wrapping sandwiches, covering bowls and containers with lost lids, wrapping all sizes of vegetables for the refrigerator, or reheating pizza in oven or toaster oven.
· Aluminum foil has the lowest moisture-vapor transfer rate of all wrapping materials. This means that it is the most effective in preventing the loss of moisture and vapor from the food. This is the reason why foil is preferred over plastic wrap for long-term food storage or freezing.
· It is used for wrapping food in order to preserve it, for example when storing leftover food in a refrigerator (where it serves the additional purpose of preventing odour exchange), when taking sandwiches on a journey, or when selling some kinds of take-away or fast food.
· Aluminium foil is also used for barbecuing more delicate foods such as mushrooms and vegetables; food is wrapped in foil then placed on the grill, preventing loss of moisture that may result in a less appealing texture.
