To make onion roti, combine the wheat flour, onions, coriander, green chillies, cumin seeds, ginger, ghee, and salt in a deep bowl, mix well and knead to make a soft smooth using enough water. Divide the dough into 6 equal portions and roll out each portion of the dough into a 125 mm. (5”) diameter circle with the help of a little whole wheat flour. Heat a non-stick tava (griddle) and cook each roti, using a little oil, till golden brown spots appear on both the sides. Serve immediately.

This Indian style onion chapati is flavorful yet moderately-spiced so it will be appealing to the whole family. Wonderfully flavourful, this roti is perked up not just by the pungency of onions, but also by the aroma of roasted cumin seeds and fresh coriander.

This tasty onion paratha is rather versatile - it can be had with an elaborate vegetable preparation or just a cup of curds and pickle. A simple pudina raita would make a tongue-tickling dinner fare.

This onion roti is not only a vibrant gastronomic treat, that is visually very appealing but it has a wealth of nutrients too. Ingredients

For Onion Roti
1 cup whole wheat flour (gehun ka atta)
1 cup finely chopped onions
2 tbsp finely chopped coriander (dhania)
1 1/2 tsp finely chopped green chillies
1 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
1/2 tsp grated ginger (adrak)
1 tsp melted ghee
salt to taste

  1. To make onion roti, combine all the ingredients in a deep bowl, mix well and knead to make a soft smooth using enough water.

  1.   5. Add 1 tsp cumin seeds (jeera).
  6. Add 1/2 tsp grated ginger (adrak).
  7. Add 1 or 2 teaspoons melted ghee. If you want a very rich roti then add 2 tbsp melted ghee
  8. Add salt to taste.
  9. Mix well.
  10. Add enough water to make a soft dough.
  11. Knead into a soft dough.
  12. Make the dough into cylinderical shape. This makes it easier to make 6 equal pieces. 
  13. Divide the dough into 6 equal portions.

  2. Heat a non-stick tava (griddle) and cook one side without oil for  30 seconds. 
  3. Flip over. This is what the roti looks like when cooked without oil.
  4. Brush 1/8 teaspoon oil on the top of the roti. We have used very little oil for cooking the roti as extra oil is not needed. For those who want their roti rich, then add more oil. BUT, if you have any medical issues, then restrict the oil usage.

This is a nice variation to the regular rotis...A simple mix of onions and spices added to the flour makes for a delicious roti....Pairs well with any vegetable or just a bowl of curds.

Whole wheat flour mixed with onions and green chillies makes a lovely roti. i reduced the ghee to make it a healthier roti. Taste yum.
